2019 – The Year That Was

2019 – The Year That Was

Christmas is once again upon us, we thought we would take the opportunity to reflect on 2019 for both Vinpac International and VI Packaging.

To help us to deliver the highest level of customer service, throughout the year we have employed additional resources in our Vinpac International sales and customer service teams along with our Supply and VI Packaging teams. We also have some new faces in our Laboratory and Warehouse. Our new team members have brought with them a wide range of experience and some are familiar faces that have been in the wine industry for a long time.

We have a great mix of skills and experience within our teams. Some of our people have reached 15 – 25 years of service this year, which is a significant achievement!

Jamie Roehr and Lindy Menz with their 25-year certificates and Bernie Lamont with her 15 years award.

Merridie Tomlinson who has reached 15 years of service.

Being able to supply our customers with a wide variety of products and services is of the utmost importance to us. We have expanded our beer offering this year to our VI Packaging customers. We now have a whole section dedicated to our beer products on our website. In early 2020 we will announce a new product offering that we are extremely excited about. It will be of benefit to both our wine bottling and beer customers.

For us, sponsorship and giving back to the community is a major priority. Once again, we were major sponsors of the Barossa Vintage Parade. We have also been involved in the various regional Wine Shows, the Variety Club Wine Auction Luncheon, Foundation Barossa, sporting clubs and schools – just to name a few.

A very special event that we had involvement in this year was The Luke South Invitational – McLaren Vale Golf Day. This annual golf day has now been renamed in memory of Luke, who loved this event and who was a much-loved member of Vinpac International. The Vinpac team was victorious in taking home the trophy and it was a fantastic day.

We have been very fortunate to continue our partnership with Barossa Enterprises this year, with the Employee of the Month awards along with some great community and events.

We collaborated with Barossa Enterprises on the World’s Greatest Shave and participated in the Scarecrow Competition, part of the Barossa Vintage Festival. This ongoing partnership is something we are proud to continue into 2020.

Another event we were a part of this year, was Winetech This was held in July at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Vinpac International and VI Packaging shared a joint stand we had a chance to showcase our businesses over the 3 days. It was great to see our customers and suppliers visit our stand and get involved in our daily competitions The event started to get slightly competitive when teams were pitted against each other to see who could fold up a carton the quickest.

This year we undertook the major project of implementing the D365 system into our McLaren Vale site. As with any major project, there have been challenges for our people, customers, and suppliers. We thank you for your patience and understanding. We appreciate the support of the teams that have rallied to get this system up and running and we look forward to more improvements in 2020, which will ensure that we are providing the highest level of service to our customers.

Sustainability is important to us and we have completed an LED upgrade at Angaston. This project will reduce our carbon emissions by approx 450 Tonnes per year. This year we have implemented the Environmental Management System and currently seeking certification to ISO14001. We also created a sustainability committee with representation from most departments and sites.

We are extremely excited to be making some substantial investment in our manufacturing and supply capability with the upgrade of two of our Production Lines at Vinpac Angaston. We will be installing new Filler machines on Lines 1 and 2 as well as a new floor under Line 9, including work to drains and walls leading into Christmas.

We wish all our customers and suppliers a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to working with you all in 2020 for another great year.
